Inspired by the natural world around me, I love to paint and collage the downland, forests and magnificent coastline of Sussex using Indian inks in rich, sparkling colours that are a joy to work with.
Working from my garden studio at home in Newick, my work continually evolves and over most recent years I have developed different series of work:
-
Ink paintings on wooden panels
-
Framescapes in which the painted frame is integral part of the painting
-
Decorative collages inspired by the treasures of nature, flowers, fruit and shells.
I grew up in the centre of Brighton, and after leaving school I was determined to study art and went to Eastbourne College of Art and then Brighton Polytechnic (now University) obtaining a BA (Hons) in Illustration in the late 1980’s. After graduating I became a freelance illustrator and then joined a small family book printers in Hampshire before continuing to work in the print and stationary industries for several years. I properly restarted painting in 2013 when my youngest daughter started at nursery school, eventually joining the artist-led cooperative Chalk Gallery in Lewes 2016. In 2019 I became its Chairperson, until I left in 2022.
My work can be seen in local galleries, shows and exhibitions around Sussex and the South of England. I am a mentor, run adult workshops for groups and visit schools to talk about my work
